So in this Teen Theology, we are going to talk about why Jesus had to die. We will also see why Jesus had to be 100% God and 100% Man AAAAAND why Jesus couldn’t sin or have what’s called a sin nature. Let’s break down Romans 5:8-17 I’m doing some paraphrasing for time and explanation. Here we go:

8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. 9 And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s judgment.  (So this is saying that God loves, but He is also just and must judge sin. The payment for sin is Death -Romans 6:23-so he sent Jesus to die for us to pay for our sins. This allows God to be just and forgive our sins)

Next verse:

10 For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will also be saved through the life of his Son. 11 So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God. ( we can have a friendship, with the Father and we are his Kids now because of Jesus)

Now here’s where we start seeing the answers to those questions.

12 When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. 13 See, people sinned even before the law was given. But it was not counted as sin because there was not yet any law to break. 14 Still, everyone died—from the time of Adam to the time of Moses—even those who did not disobey a direct commandment of God, as Adam did. (here we go, pay attention)  Now Adam is a symbol, a representation of Christ, who hadn’t come yet. 15 But there is a big difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift (which is Jesus). For the sin of this one person, Adam, brought death to many. But God’s wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness is even more powerful because it brings freedom from sin to whoever accepts the payment Jesus made for us when He died on the cross. 16 And the result of God’s gracious gift is very different from the result of that one man’s sin. For Adam’s sin led to condemnation, but God’s free gift leads to our being made right with God, even though we are guilty of many sins. 17 For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.

So here’s the recap and break down:

Because Adam sinned and caused every one of us to have a sin nature, which means Basically, everyone wants to sin. because Adam was the first human, all of his descendants are born with a sin gene you could say. So we sin and it means we must be judged for our sin. Adam sinned and infected the whole human race. So another human had to come and get us out of it. Jesus, came as 100% man so he was qualified to be our substitute, but He was 100% God so he wasn’t tainted by sin and could be the perfect payment for our sin. Just like Adam brought death to all humans, Jesus brought life to all humans if we accept His payment for our sin. This is why Jesus had to die.
