Sin
Let’s talk about sin. What is it? Sin means to miss the mark. Think about having a target and you have the bullseye. That is perfection. It is what God says is right. How God says to live. Anything other than that way is sin. Sin is more than just cussing or telling a bad joke. Sin is living life your way instead of God’s way. Sin is rebellion against God. It’s treason against the king. And no one is free from sin! Romans 3:23 says that everyone has sinned. No one meets the standard of God’s perfection. And sin has severe consequences. Romans 6:23 says “the payment for sin is death!” Sin, always leads to death. Death to a friendship, death to your future, death to having peace in your life. Sin is the reason why we have wars, cancer, hatred, racism, and abuse in the world. but most importantly it’s a spiritual death that means that you are separated from God now and in eternity. You cannot go to heaven and hell would be your eternal destination.
But there’s hope. In Romans 6:23 it finishes by saying “but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”. Jesus is the answer for sin.
You might be wondering how do I know if I’m sinning. Well there are a few ways. 1. If it tells you not to do it in the Bible (like steal, kill, lie, disrespect your parents, have sex before marriage etc.) than you know for sure it’s a sin. 2. If God tells you to do something and you don’t do it than that’s sin because you are disobeying God. 3. If God tells us to do something in His word, and we don’t do it, it’s sin. To put it in simpler terms, sinning is not being obedient to what God says.
If you’ve accepted Jesus, sinning doesn’t make you unsaved or not a Christian anymore, but it does create a strain on your relationship with God. When this happens, tell God you’re sorry, repent or choose to have God’s way of thinking about your choices, and ask the Holy Spirit to chang you and live God’s way. When we do He promises in 1 John 1:8 that if we confess our sins He is always faithful to forgive us!
